Some of the Many Reasons to Praise God (Psalm 98) | Breathe & Receive | 42
Tuesday Feb 02, 2021
Tuesday Feb 02, 2021
Need a reminder of why God is good? Listen to this meditation on Psalm 98 and let your heart swell with joy and praise. God is good, and you GET to follow him and be loved by him!
Get your favourite blanket, take a few deep breaths, and let your heart be reminded of his goodness.
Our text today is Psalm 98 (NIV).
Sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
The Lord has made his salvation known
and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
He has remembered his love
and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music;
make music to the Lord with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,
with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—
shout for joy before the Lord, the King.
Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.
Let the rivers clap their hands,
let the mountains sing together for joy;
let them sing before the Lord,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples with equity.
Say a prayer for your sisters and brothers in Christ somewhere else in the world as you hear the first verse in French (Second 21).

Monday Jan 25, 2021
Monday Jan 25, 2021
You will have trouble in life. Ugh. Jesus tells us that, and we know there's no way of escaping trouble in this world. But he also promises us his peace when we abide in him.
Listen to this meditation to seek God's loving presence and get some hope in the troubles you're facing.
These are Jesus’ words to his disciples. John 16:33 (NIV).
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Pray for our sisters and brothers in Christ in a part of the world that captures your heart as you hear our verse in French (Second 21).

Not everything our little ones do is adorable. Listen to this guided meditation when you need a reminder of all the delightful parts of their little personalities. Your children are made in the image of God, just like you are, and when the days are full of teething and tantrums, sometimes we need to intentionally remember all the good!
Our scripture passage is Ephesians 2:10 (NIV).
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
This is true for your child. Let that sink in!
I read our verse in French (Second 21) to give us a moment to remember and pray for mothers around the world in completely different circumstances from you, but who love their children as fiercely as you love yours.

Have you lost your sense of awe and wonder at your little ones? This meditation will help you refocus on the good gift of your children, even when you're exhausted. It'll help change your perspective when you're tired from dealing with challenging behaviour, teething, and tantrums.
Our passage today is Psalm 139:13-16 (NIV).
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
This is 15 in French (Second 21). While you listen, say a prayer for all the children around the world that God created with the same love and care he created yours.

The True Definition of Love - Advent Week 4 | Breathe & Receive | 38
Sunday Dec 20, 2020
Sunday Dec 20, 2020
What is love? I get the 90's song by Haddaway stuck in my head (I definitely had to look up the artist)! But what IS love? People like to come up with their own definitions of love, but God tells us what love truly is. Not only does he tell us, he showed us by sending Jesus to rescue us. We were in bondage to darkness, to sin, but God rescued us, so that we can spend eternity in his loving presence. That's GOOD news!
For week 4 of Advent, we're meditating on 1 John 4:9-11 (NIV) which tells us what love is.
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
This is the first verse of our passage in French. This is an invitation to take your focus off of yourself, and remember the body of Christ around the world, who is celebrating Christ’s birth, and awaiting his return along with you.
(Second 21)

A Joy-Filled Birth - Advent Week 3 | Breathe & Receive | 37
Sunday Dec 13, 2020
Sunday Dec 13, 2020
There's nothing like a newborn baby - precious and awe-inspiring and entirely dependent. The God who created the universe chose to come into the world as a little baby boy to give us what we need most: to be saved from our sin, from the evil in the world and in our own hearts.
This week's meditation is on a passage that tells the true account of simple shepherds who had the great joy of meeting Jesus, the world's Saviour, as a newborn baby. Let your heart be filled with joy as you listen to prepare your heart for Christmas.
Our reading for Week 3 of Advent is Luke 2:8-21 (NIV).
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.
This is the first verse of our passage in French (Second 21). As you listen, this is an invitation to take your focus off of yourself, and remember the body of Christ around the world, who hear these words in many different languages, and who worship the same Jesus you do. We’re all brothers and sisters in Christ.

As moms, when our children face difficulties, pain, and hurt in this life, we can point them to the hope we have in the new beginning when there will be no more pain and suffering when Jesus returns.
As followers of Jesus, one day we will experience the most beautiful beginning. All things will be made new, and Jesus, who is love, will rule and reign forever.
Waiting is hard. But we have the most wonderful person to wait for: our beloved King Jesus who loves us so much that he died for us so he could spend forever with us.
Meditate on this hope-filled message from Isaiah 11:1-10 (NIV).
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD—and he will delight in the fear of the LORD.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.
This is first verse of the passage in French, as we take a moment to pray for our sisters and brothers in Christ all around the world.

Are you TIRED? Tired of fighting? Tired of the disappointments? Maybe this year has been one hard thing after another for you. When we're used to hearing it, saying Jesus is our hope can sound really trite when we're facing very real and very awful pain and disappointment. But I encourage you to open you heart and listen to this meditation as if it's the first time you're hearing these things.
My prayer for you is that your heart will be filled with the very REAL hope we have for one day when Jesus will rule and make all things new. No more tears. No more suffering. No more disappointment.
Bring your exhaustion, your anxiety, and your disappointments to Jesus and trade them in for a heart filled with real hope.
We will meditate on these scripture passages:
Isaiah 9:2 (NIV)
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
Feel connected to the millions of other followers of Jesus around the world who have hope in God’s promise along with you. This is Isaiah 9:2 in French (Second 21).
Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Monday Nov 23, 2020
Monday Nov 23, 2020
Have you ever literally counted your blessings? I bet if you did, there would be many more than you think! That's what we're doing in this episode! So get a pen and paper, and be prepared to feel a little lighter and a little more joyful than you did before listening. Gratitude is shown to make us feel more joyful, and we could all use a little more joy to end 2020 with grateful hearts.
Whether you're celebrating Thanksgiving in the US this week, or it's a regular old Thursday where you live - why not use this occasion to get grateful?
Here's our scripture passage for today:
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)
And here's today's scripture in French, as we take a moment to remember our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. (Second 21).
Soyez toujours joyeux.
